I just adore that final issue because of the letter the author wrote at the end. Which I'll quote from since it's not like I left a link or anything for you to read... ;)
"I don't have any definitive information on whether there will be more Samurai Jack animation down the road but, if there isn't, I wanted to make sure this story gave at least some sense of closure to the many, many fans of the series."
But he still left it open in a way, so that if anyone wanted to tell more stories, they could.
A great show, Tartakovsky's masterpiece. The politicization of art is so prevalent these days, it's like the water some of us swim in or the air that we breathe, we're hardly aware of it. Thanks for calling it out to some degree here and also for the wonderful appreciation of part of what makes this show so great.
you write so well. I love when a piece of art can be so much more than its medium. In this case, a children's cartoon. Oddly, it reminded me of when Animaniacs taught me that some Nazis escaped to Argentina.
Wow, I never watched this show and now I wonder if I should. The bittersweet ending does sound very Asian, but that's also what they were going for. There's really no happy endings when it comes to time travel. I present to you Stein;s Gate as an example. But boy, do you have room to explore courage, morality, and the cost of faith!
Well... Stein's Gate... sort of. (that is a beautiful one) Vivy and Tenet are 2 of my recent faves of bittersweet time travel stories - but a little more on the sweet.
But Jack is one of my favorite shows. Best ever. It could range from the haunting, to the hilarious. Every episode was like a mini movie. It also taught me how much you could pack into a run time. The creator knew how to turn seconds into ages.
Did you read the comic line that came out for awhile?
No, for most of my life I either haven't lived near a comic shop or haven't had a car. :(
*cough*

Oh lawd I'm reading that immediately
You should. There was a big trade that collected all the issues, and looks like some trades splitting them up.

Clearly you’re one of the free thinkers.
Kudos
I really enjoyed reading this. Thanks for sharing!
I've never finished the show – maybe now I never will, it's slightly spoilered (not a complaint), but I think it's a good defense of the arc.
My second re-watch was very entertaining even though I knew what was coming. I recommend it!

Man, you just reminded me that I need to get my kids into Animaniacs!

Agreed, Samurai Jack was a masterpiece! I would throw it on and these two ADHD boys would stop wrestling and become absolutely enthralled
It was really an amazing classic! Also a lot funnier than I made it sound here!
